Cornwall Welcomes First Flamingo Egg of 2025

The expectant parents are named Penelope and Colin

The first flamingo egg of 2025 has been laid at Paradise Park in Cornwall, marking an exciting moment for the team. According to news the egg was discovered on Saturday, and keeper Becky Waite expressed the team’s joy, noting they were “very happy” with the development.

Waite shared that there was a sense of optimism this year, especially after last year’s heartbreak when the flamingo pair, Penelope and Colin, lost their chick in 2024. “Colin and Penelope are the first flamingos to lay an egg this year, but we also have Derek and Doris, and we’re hopeful that they will lay theirs in the coming week,” she said.

The flamingos will take turns caring for the egg, with hopes that the chick will hatch next month. Visitors can follow the progress of the egg by watching a live webcam, available on Paradise Park’s website.

Waite also mentioned, “There’s so much happening, and anyone can tune in to see what the flamingos are up to. They’re quite amusing to watch, especially as they work together on their little mud nests.”
