On Friday, five policemen had persulated in an ambush against a routine patrol. Local media had published images of a bullet-ridden police pickup. The Iranian forces raid released on Wednesday is linked to the event, state television said.
Sistan and Balochistan are home to a large population of the Baloch ethnic minority, which practices Sunni Islam, in a Shia-majority Iran. Already on Saturday, Iran claimed to have killed six individuals in the province, who is described as « terroristes »“terrorists”, linked to Israel, its sworn enemy.
In July, an attack on a justice building in the region claimed the lives of six persons and three assailants. The authorities claimed that the assailants, dressed in explosive vests, had attempted to enter the building, posing as visitors, before throwing a grenade.
