King Charles Makes History as First British Monarch to Address Italian Parliament
King Charles marked a historic milestone on Wednesday by becoming the first British monarch to speak before a joint session of Italy’s Parliament.
The Royal Family shared the moment on Instagram, posting a photo of the King with the caption: "His Majesty has addressed a joint session of the Italian Parliament—the first British monarch to do so."
The landmark speech came on the third day of his visit, shortly after a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Expressing his gratitude in Italian, the King said, "It means a great deal to The Queen and me to return to Italy for our first visit since my Accession. This moment is even more special as today also marks our twentieth wedding anniversary."
His address underscored the enduring ties between the UK and Italy.
