Karachi Rescue operations are still ongoing
After a 5-storey building collapsed in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, Karachi. 15 bodies have been recovered. Rescue teams and a large number of area residents are busy removing the debris. Heavy machinery is also being used. 70 percent of the rescue work has been completed. Operation Incharge Rescue 1122 Sindh says that 14 people, including 3 women and children, have died and 9 have been injured in the accident so far.
It is feared that about 25 to 30 people are buried under the rubble. Rescue officials say that it will take several more hours to complete the rescue operation. Many more people are feared to be buried under the rubble. Rescue personnel are facing difficulties in removing the debris of the collapsed building due to darkness.

The workers of Double One Double Two are busy using live locators. Officials holding voice detectors are also trying to hear human cries or voices from under the rubble. Residents of the area are mourning as one body is found after another. People near the rubble are worried about the well-being of their loved ones. Not only did the damaged building collapse, but the adjacent building was also asked to be evacuated.
The bodies shifted to the Civil Hospital include 55-year-old Hur Bibi, 35-year-old Wasim, 21-year-old Prantik son of Horsey, 28-year-old Prem son of unknown, while Fatima Zoja Babu died during treatment at the Civil Hospital. The bodies of a 25-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man and a 7-year-old child are unrecognizable. Heavy machinery was called in to remove the debris. Due to the narrow streets and blocked roads, reaching the heavy machinery became a test.
It took more than three hours for the machinery to reach. Locals have started relief work with their own help. DC South Javed Nabi Khosa said that a rescue operation is underway to remove the debris of the collapsed building in Lyari and this operation is being carried out by all the agencies together. We are trying to complete the operation as soon as possible with caution. Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi said that it may take 24 hours to complete the rescue operation.
Residents of the affected buildings should move to another place themselves. No one can be forcibly evicted from their homes. I will hold a meeting with the SBCA on illegal constructions. Deputy Commissioner South Karachi Javed Khosa said that notices were given to the residents of the affected building in 2022, 2023 and 2024. A team has been formed. Out of 107, 21 are more dangerous buildings. Out of these 21 buildings, 14 have been evacuated.
It is premature to immediately hold anyone responsible for the Lyari incident. It should be noted that a 5-storey building collapsed in the Lyari area of Karachi last month. According to rescue officials, the injured included 50-year-old Fatima, 35-year-old Chanda, 35-year-old Sunita, 25-year-old Rashid and 45-year-old Yusuf.
Officials said that the deceased included 55-year-old Hurbai, 35-year-old Wasim and 28-year-old Prem. The condition of two people pulled out of the rubble is said to be critical. Rescue officials said that rescue operations were launched as soon as the building collapsed. Six families were living in the building, while more people were feared to be buried under the rubble. Due to the closure of narrow streets and roads, there were severe difficulties in transporting heavy machinery to the scene. Local people also participated in the rescue operations to pull out the people trapped in the rubble.
