Faysal Quraishi Responds to Nadia Afgan’s Criticism Over English Dialogue in ‘Behroopia’
Veteran actor Faysal Quraishi has responded to recent remarks from Nadia Afgan, who questioned his English pronunciation in the ongoing drama Behroopia. The discussion arose from a specific word used repeatedly by his character, which Nadia called out as incorrect.
In Behroopia, Faysal plays Kabir — a layered character diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. His performance has been widely appreciated by audiences for its emotional depth and versatility. However, during an appearance on the talk show Kya Drama Hai, Nadia Afgan critiqued one particular aspect of the role: Kabir’s frequent use of the word “gottcha.”
Nadia suggested the pronunciation was wrong, commenting, “What kind of a word is that?” She argued it should be “got you” instead, implying that the usage reflected poor English.
Faysal Quraishi, however, did not let the comment go unanswered. In a video posted online alongside Behroopia director Shaquielle Khan, he explained the intention behind the character’s language style. Faysal clarified that the choice of “gottcha” was intentional, rooted in the backstory of Kabir.
He stated, “In the U.S., some people informally say ‘gottcha’ instead of ‘got you.’ Kabir is influenced by a foreign friend, and he mimics that way of speaking — it’s part of his personality.”
Director Shaquielle Khan supported this explanation, adding that Kabir’s dialogue was thoughtfully constructed to reflect his psychological profile and background. “If there had been a real mistake, we would’ve corrected it. But this isn’t one — it was a deliberate creative choice,” Shaquielle said.
The response sparked debate on social media, where the majority of fans sided with Faysal. Many viewed Nadia’s criticism as unnecessary and lacking an understanding of the character’s context. Comments flooded in, defending Faysal’s performance and creative integrity.
One viewer remarked, “Actors should understand the role before passing judgment.” Another added, “It’s just jealousy — they’re no longer getting the spotlight and can’t handle others doing well.”
As of now, Nadia Afgan has not addressed the public reaction or the explanations given by Faysal and Shaquielle.
Meanwhile, Behroopia continues to generate buzz, with Faysal Quraishi’s portrayal of Kabir attracting even more attention — not just for its complexity, but also for the conversation it has sparked.
