Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the film follows Raoul and Alex, a married couple portrayed by Isaac and Stewart, who descend from their high-rise penthouse each night to explore a vibrant and surreal underground world. Their lives take a turn when they meet the enigmatic Nameless, played by Olsen, and her group of wild partygoers, leading them into a shadowy realm filled with indulgence, danger, and fantasy, according to Deadline.
News said that the screenplay is written by Andrew Kevin Walker (of Se7en fame), based on a story developed by both Walker and Cosmatos. The project is being produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch (Hyperobject Industries), Gena Konstantinakos, and Oscar Isaac (Mad Gene Media).
Olsen is widely recognized for portraying Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with standout roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Infinity War, Endgame, and the Disney+ series WandaVision. She began her career with the critically acclaimed indie film Martha Marcy May Marlene and has since appeared in films like Wind River, Ingrid Goes West, and Godzilla.
Flesh of the Gods marks the fourth collaboration between Cosmatos and XYZ Films. The two previously worked on the upcoming Miley Cyrus feature Something Beautiful, which is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. They also have a project titled Nekrokosm in the pipeline with A24.
Among XYZ Films‘ upcoming releases are Banquet, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and starring Meghann Fahy; the SXSW entry Hallow Road, a thriller featuring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys; and The Trip, starring Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Juliette Lewis, and Timothy Olyphant, which is currently in post-production.
