Comedian Matt Rife doesn’t understand why Sydney Sweeney is under fire on the internet.
“I keep seeing people mad at Sydney Sweeney for noooothing,” Rife, 29, wrote via X on Friday, August 22. “She’s learning that the internet is full of absolute garbage losers who will twist anything you say into a c***y misinterpretation. People are awful.”

Rife's comments coincided with Sweeney's recent remarks regarding her contentious support of soap that claimed to use her own bathwater.
In a profile that was released earlier this week, Sweeney, 27, told WSJ Magazine, "I think it's important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience." The majority of the comments were made by the girls, which I found to be quite fascinating. They all thought Jacob Elordi's bathwater was a great idea.
Barry Keoghan famously slurped the last of Elordi's character's bathwater in Sweeney's Euphoria co-star's 2023 film Saltburn. Fans created DIY candles named after Elordi, 32, and the on-screen moment as a result of the now-viral scene.
In her WSJ interview, Sweeney added that she frequently considers her endorsements "very" strategically. Her recent appointment as the face of American Eagle's denim line sparked criticism because it appeared to support eugenics.
The double entendre of the campaign's tagline, "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes," led many people to believe that it supported eugenics, a widely rejected theory about improving human genetics.
"Sydney believes that everything has been exaggerated," an insider exclusively told Us Weekly in early August. "She is returning to the set with her Euphoria family and is concentrating her energies on her work."
The HBO hit's third season is currently being filmed, and Sweeney has not publicly responded to the AE criticism. Since then, the company has released a statement addressing the controversy.
It has always been about the jeans in "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans." her pants. "Her story," the retailer wrote in their post. We will keep praising the way each person confidently dons their AE jeans in their own unique style. All people look good in great jeans.
In a recent ad campaign for e.l.f. Cosmetics, Rife herself caused controversy. Following his prior jokes about domestic abuse in his 2023 Netflix special, fans blasted Rife's involvement. Later on, he expressed regret for the remarks.
The beauty brand said in a statement on August 13 that "you know us, we're always listening, and we've heard you." This campaign sought to expose beauty injustice in a humorous way. In our e.l.f. community, we recognize that we fell short with those we care about. The argument against expensive beauty will not stop even though e.l.f.ino & Schmarnes closes today.
Regarding the e.l.f. ad controversy, Rife has not spoken out.
